It’s hard to believe we are just a few days away from Thanksgiving and kicking off the holiday season! Although I’m currently drowning in a research project that is due immediately after we return from break, I can’t wait to get away from the school environment and enjoy some of Mamma’s homemade cooking!
Since going gluten-free, our thanksgiving meal hasn’t look much different other than ensuring we buy a gluten-free turkey and leave out the stuffing. However, this year I’ve got some new allergies to manage, so before I head back home, I’m going to whip up an egg-free pumpkin bread!!
Before having to maintain an egg-free diet one of my favorite gluten-free bread was Canyon Bakehouse breads. Even my family enjoyed it when I made our annual Christmas French Toast. Recently Canyon Bakehouse emailed me and offered to send me some of their products to try out some new recipes. However, in the spirit of giving, I asked if they would be willing to run a giveaway for my readers, since I could no longer enjoy one of my favorite breads. They have graciously agreed to give products away to TWO of my readers (within the US only).
Not only were they willing to do a giveaway with my blog but they also wanted to share some tips and recipes to make your holidays a little easier!
Stay calm – It might seem like the holidays won’t be as tasty, but we’re here to tell you it can be! Before you continue reading, take a deep breath and stay calm…
Plan ahead – Just like every day in a GF household, planning meals ahead of time is the key to staying on track.
Make your own food – There’s no rule that says people with celiac can’t attend holiday parties. If you go, why not bring a GF dish to pass? If you bring one of your favorites, chances are others don’t even have to know its gluten-free!
Don’t scratch, just swap – If you’re cooking a gluten-free dish this holiday you don’t have to scrap your old recipes. Instead, just make simple swaps: To thicken gravy, whisk in a tablespoon or two of sweet rice flour instead of wheat flour; for stuffing, try Canyon Bakehouse gluten-free bread.
Double-check labels – You probably have a friend or two who are being supportive with your gluten sensitivity and are making gluten-free dishes for you. However, chances are if they don’t have celiac themselves, they don’t know how to properly check for gluten in ALL food sources. While it’s great to accept their kindness, be sure to double-check all labels to make sure there’s no hidden gluten.
