The Craziness of School & Lessons of the Summer
Life has been a crazy world-wind this past week. Back to school means back to a schedule, and although I was on a strict schedule this summer at Brooks, getting back to school has knocked me for a loop. Sunday night I was in bed and asleep by 8:45PM and aside from the night I spent at the lake house I was in bed no later than 10PM. Grad school is off to a great start; I started my graduate assistantship, love all my classes, and am looking forward to getting fully into practium.
This is the semester where there is no room to get behind. Yet, at the same time, it’s also a semester where I need to take in all the moments, especially those pure moments of peace. For me this means focusing on what I’m doing in the very moment; whether it be in class, working out, reading, or dare I say relaxing. Slowing down my life in an environment in a place that is on the go 24/7. Staying truly present, being more intentional and taking that extra moment to breathe. These are all lessons which I learned on my summer journey.
And as much as things feel uneasy as there are a lot of unknowns and I’m discovering my “new normal,” it’s also very Freeing.
It’s freeing to allow myself to not be perfect
To acknowledge I will and I have made mistakes these past two weeks
But it’s gonna take some time.
Just as it took me time to adjust to the gluten-free lifestyle and new food allergies
This is a shout out for all those who have “fallen off the bang wagon”
Or those just starting out on the gluten-free diet
It’s gonna take time
There are trials and errors
But you will get it
And just because you made a mistake
It’s doesn’t have to be label as a “bad day”
Of course we are all human
We all have bad days
But if we can change our thinking
If I can change my “all or nothing” attitude
It takes the pressure off
It allows me to breathe a little easier
It allows me to not beat myself down
Summer was a world wind
But it was also full of teachable moments
Whatever you are feeling
Take in the moment
And find the simplest form of gratitude
Whatever you are doing
Show up fully
Value the relationships
Take in all the moments
and find peace with yourself
The beginning of any new “adventure” isn’t easy
But let me tell you a little secret
If you find the faith within yourself
Anything is possible.
